Starting 2025: A Year of Growth

Writer: Jessica CoxJessica Cox

As the calendar flips to 2025, I’m filled with excitement for what this year holds—especially in my journey with barrel racing. My focus is on growth, consistency, and learning new techniques that will help me improve both as a rider and a competitor.Barrel racing is more than just speed and precision; it’s about trust, connection, and timing with your horse. I’ve realized that mastering this sport means never stopping the pursuit of learning.

That’s why I’m kicking off 2025 with a renewed commitment to education—whether it’s attending clinics, studying successful riders, or refining my training routines at home. Every tip, tweak, and lesson brings me closer to my goals. One of my main objectives is consistency. It’s easy to get caught up in chasing faster times, but I’ve learned that the real magic lies in building solid, repeatable habits with my horse. From smooth transitions to sharper turns, every small improvement is a step toward becoming a more dependable and confident rider.

Consistency isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up, putting in the work, and celebrating the progress along the way.I’m also starting to understand that growth in barrel racing isn’t just about physical skills. It’s a mental game, too. Staying focused under pressure, learning from setbacks, and finding the balance between ambition and patience are just as important as nailing the run.

So, as I dive into this year, I’m setting a few intentions for myself:

  • Stay open to new techniques and ideas, even if they are outside my comfort zone.

  • Practice with purpose and every ride to stay present.

  • Celebrate the small things, because they lead to big change.

2025 feels like a blank slate—a chance to build on everything I’ve learned so far and push myself to new heights. Barrel racing isn’t just a hobby; it’s a journey.  A journey of self-discovery and connection with my horses that I have been longing for.  A journey I am welcoming with wide arms. Here’s to embracing the process and making this year one for the books!
