Finding Connection: Preparing for This Weekend's Horsemanship Clinic

Writer: Jessica CoxJessica Cox

This weekend, Sparky and I are heading to a horsemanship clinic, and I’m filled with hope about what’s ahead. It’s not just about learning new techniques or riding tips—it’s about building a stronger connection and confidence with Sparky and finding ways to carry that into our barrel pattern.

Sparky and I have been working, but I know there’s always more to learn when it comes to communication, trust, and partnership. Sometimes, the smallest adjustments can make the biggest difference. I’m looking forward to stepping outside my comfort zone, getting feedback, and taking the time to focus on those foundational skills that are so important for success in barrels—or any discipline, really.

This clinic is a chance for me to slow down and truly listen to Sparky. I want to learn how to be a better partner for him, whether it’s understanding his cues, fine tuning my timing, or simply being more present in the saddle. My hope is that what we learn this weekend will create a ripple effect, helping us move with more confidence and precision when we hit the barrel pattern.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow—not just as a rider, but as Sparky’s teammate.

Stay tuned—I'll be sharing updates on what we learn and how it shapes our journey!
